ATG Danmon Completes Ingest and Transcoding System for Telegael

ATG Danmon, one of Europe's most experienced broadcast systems integrators, announces the completion of a video ingest, transcoding and quality-control solution for Ireland's multiple award-winning film and animation group, Telegael. This includes a Dalet AmberFin transcoder and Digimetrics Aurora file-based quality control software integrated into a PC server.

"We have contributed to the creation of a large library of animation and live action programmes co-produced with some of the world's largest studios, broadcasters and distributors," comments Telegael's Chief Engineer, Aengus Cullinan.

"The system designed and commissioned by ATG Danmon for our Galway headquarters enables us to ingest from a variety of file formats and discrete media such as video tape. We can then perform file-based standards-conversion to match the various transmission standards used around the globe. The Dalet AmberFin transcoder also gives us a highly efficient way to perform general file processing tasks combined with Digimetrics Aurora which provides file-based QC in an integrated workflow.

"The server is housed in our central apparatus room. It is connected to our network, linking each of our production and editing suites. Files are uploaded for overnight processing. The system is easy to control and operates largely automatically. It works particularly well in terms of transcode quality."

"Dalet AmberFin Ingest has proved a highly successful element of many recent systems projects," adds ATG Danmon Product Sales Manager Chris Elson. "It incorporates ultra high-quality codecs supporting a wide range of file formats including MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, JPEG 2000, Pro-Res, DNxHD, AVC-Intra and XDCAM HD etc. It can easily be automated using broadcast and IT protocols such as RS422, VDCP, SOAP web services and scripting hooks within the workflow. AmberFin Play allows baseband review of shared file assets at any point in the workflow. Integrating with Digimetrics' Aurora QC, as in this system, creates a seamless workflow from ingest to transcode, AQC and eyeball review. This enables high levels of operational efficiency, saving time and money."
